We are going to show you how to brew mushroom coffee in one of my favorite ways!

Cold brew coffee is a delightful way to enjoy your daily caffeine fix, and when you add the potential health benefits of Lion's Mane and Chaga mushrooms into the mix, you're in for a truly extraordinary experience. Let's explore how to make this delicious and nutritious concoction using either a mason jar or a classic French press. The French press is easier only because you don’t have the step of straining the coffee through a filter but otherwise its not necessary.

Why is cold brew so good?

Taste– Brewing coffee at a lower temperature allows a different flavor profile to come out. The cooler water doesn’t extract as much tannin or acidity from the coffee. This allows for a sweeter fuller tasting coffee with less bitterness. It is not your imagination it does taste better.

Shelf life – Cold brew can retain its taste if properly stored for up to two weeks. Make your favorite batch in advance and enjoy throughout the week!

Anyway you like -  You don’t have to drink it cold, heating it up doesn’t ruin the flavor. The benefits were already cemented with the slow cold brewing coffee.

The Basics of Mushroom Coffee Cold Brew

Before we get started, let's briefly understand why adding Lion's Mane and Chaga mushrooms to your cold brew coffee is such a fantastic idea. These mushrooms have gained popularity for their cognitive and immune-boosting benefits, making your daily coffee ritual even better for your well-being. This means you get the health benefits of mushrooms and the drive and focus from the nootropic mushrooms. If you have a French press skip to Method 2.

How To Brew Mushroom Coffee

Method 1: Mason Jar Magic with Mushroom Coffee

Mason jars are versatile, and they're perfect for infusing your cold brew with mushroom goodness. Here's how to do it:

We are going to make a small batch that will almost fill your standard mason jar. Feel free to expand this recipe. We are using a 8 – 1 water to coffee ratio.

Ingredients:

  • Swell Nutritions Mental Boost ground mushroom coffee (44g or approx. 9tbsp)
  • Cold, filtered water (350g/ml or 12oz)
  • Mason jar with a lid
  • Fine-mesh strainer or regular coffee filter

Steps:

  1. Start by measuring out your ground mushroom coffee
  2. Add the mushroom coffee grounds to your mason jar.
  3. Pour the cold, filtered water over the mushroom coffee grounds. Stir gently to ensure even saturation.
  4. Seal the mason jar with its lid and let it steep in your refrigerator for 12-24 hours. The extended steeping time allows the flavors and potential benefits of the mushrooms to infuse into the brew.
  5. After steeping, strain the mushroom coffee cold brew through a fine-mesh strainer or coffee filter to remove any remaining grounds.
  6. This will make a medium strong mix. If you like it stronger increase the ratio of coffee or let it sit for the full 24 hours.
  7. You now have the perfect cold brew mushroom coffee. Dilute with water or milk to suit your taste or simply drink as is. We love it straight over ice with a dash of milk and our collagen powder.

Method 2: French Press Finesse with Mushroom Coffee

The French press is superior because you don’t need to do any straining you can just push the press down and pour out your coffee. It can be stored in the French press or sealed in a mason jar for a longer life.

Ingredients:

  • Swell Nutritions Mental Boost ground mushroom coffee (44g or approx. 9tbsp)
  • Cold, filtered water (350g/ml or 12oz)
  • French press

Steps:

  1. Measure out your ground mushroom coffee blend
  2. Add the mushroom coffee grounds to your French press.
  3. Pour in the cold, filtered water and give it a gentle stir to ensure even saturation.
  4. Place the lid on the French press without pressing down the plunger just yet.
  5. Allow the mushroom coffee to steep in your refrigerator for 12-24 hours, allowing the mushrooms to impart their unique flavors and benefits.
  6. After steeping, gently press down the plunger to separate the grounds from the liquid.
  7. This will make a medium strong mix. If you like it stronger increase the ratio of coffee or let it sit for the full 24 hours.
  8. You now have the perfect cold brew mushroom coffee. Dilute with water or milk to suit your taste or simply drink as is. We love it straight over ice with a dash of milk and our collagen powder.
  9. If not consuming right away transfer to a mason jar or other sealable container for storage.
